Powerful way to support youth

Contributing your time is a powerful way to support youth and teens in your community. Just a few hours a week can have a tremendous impact on a young person’s life. Our volunteers beautify our Clubs, support our programs, and inspire young people to reach their full potentials. We offer a variety of opportunities for adults to work directly with youth as homework helpers and tutors, Reading Buddies, and program activity assistants.

There are many ways to get involved at every level of our organization. We’re flexible, and we will strive to match you with an opportunity that fits your skills, interests and availability.

Volunteer Hours

Depending on location, our Clubs are open 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm (Monday – Friday) during the school year and 9:00 am to 6:30 pm (Monday – Friday) during the summer. All individual volunteer opportunities listed below are available within those hours.

Requirements
To volunteer directly with youth and teens, you MUST:
  1. Be at least 18 years old
  2. Commit to a regular schedule of at least 1 day per week for a minimum of 10 weeks

These commitments are crucial. We need volunteers who’ll be with us for at least 10 weeks, so our Club members can gain the stability and familiarity that’s needed to make an impact on a young person’s life. (We currently do not offer “drop-in” volunteer opportunities in our Clubs.)

If you can commit to this, then we’d love to have you on our volunteer team!

Process

Step 1: Check out our available volunteer opportunities.

Step 2: Submit a volunteer application online or in person at one of our Clubs.

Step 3: Submit a background check. The safety of our Club Members is our top priority, so all volunteers are required to submit a background check (criminal history and sex offender registry) with a $12 fee before being approved. Please complete the Volunteer Application to receive a link to our background check form.

Step 4: Get matched. Once approved, our Volunteer Coordinator will connect you with your preferred site’s Youth and Family Supports Coordinator, who will lead you through the orientation process. Volunteers are usually approved in 1-2 weeks, depending on their background check and the orientation schedule.

Get Started

Individual Volunteers

We’re looking for individual volunteers who are at least 18 years old to make an ongoing commitment to help in a Club at least one day each week for at least 10 weeks.

Homework Help

Power Hour, our after-school homework help program for 1st through 5th graders, is always in need of positive and supportive volunteers to help Members with their homework. For those Members who need more personalized assistance, we provide one-on-one tutoring.

Reading Buddies (Our Kids Read)

Our partnership with Our Kids Read allows us to pair a Reading Buddy with each of our Club Members in grades 1 to 3. Each adult Reading Buddy reads virtually with a Club Kid, helping them gain extra reading practice, so they can stay on-track with grade-level reading proficiency by the end of 3rd grade. This is foundational to being ready for graduation and successfully pursuing a post-secondary pathway beyond high school.

Lemonade Day

Lemonade Day helps youth learn entrepreneurship, business and money management skills. You can support the 8-week program as a curriculum teacher or team coach, or you help on competition day by setting up and tearing down lemonade stands, delivering lunches or judging the competition.

Club Café

We provide nutritious meals and snacks each day at no cost to our Club Members, providing an essential need and help youth develop lifelong healthy habits. We’re looking for volunteers to help serve meals, count the youth served, and assist with cafe clean up.

Clothing Closet & Food Pantry

Our Inukai Family Club in Hillsboro features a robust program to provide the families we serve with the wraparound supports they need. We’re looking for volunteers to run our Clothing Closet and Food Pantry twice each week and track the number of families served.

Mission Support

As a mission support volunteer, you’ll commit to weekly times to help empower Club Members in various programming areas, including STEAM, sports, game room, and other areas.
