Our Guest of Honor: Terry Porter
A Boys & Girls Club kid from Milwaukee, Terry Porter spent a decade as the Portland Trail Blazers’ beloved starting point guard, earning two All-Star selections, reaching back-to-back NBA Finals, and having his #30 jersey retired by the franchise. From the moment he arrived in Portland, he invested deeply in Boys & Girls Clubs of the Portland Metropolitan Area, launching SMART Moves at BGCP to help young people make healthy choices and avoid substance abuse.
His most enduring contribution came in 1996, when he played an instrumental role in opening the Blazers Club in Northeast Portland, the only Boys & Girls Club in the country formally partnered with an NBA franchise. A longtime BGCP board member and Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame inductee, Terry’s dedication to Portland has never wavered — he rejoined the Trail Blazers organization in 2025 as a team scout, continuing his decades-long bond with the Rose City. His legacy here is measured not in points or assists, but in the countless young lives he has helped shape.
