Men’s Grooming Franchise to Help Portland Youth

PORTLAND, OR. – Hammer & Nails Grooming Shop for Guys, a men’s shop that provides hand and foot care, haircuts and shaves in a man cave nirvana, has announced plans to partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro Area (BGCP).

The Shark Tank Season 6 concept will use its innovative service to showcase opportunities for underprivileged youth with a choice of a manicure, pedicure, or high-quality haircut experience.

Hammer & Nails has a monthly membership model, consisting of two basic services from a manicure, pedicure, or haircut for a reasonable price. Members can donate their monthly membership services for a youth to use, directly benefiting BGCP teens and allowing unused services to be redeemed by youth. An individual can donate two services monthly with each membership.

Hammer & Nails owner, Dr. Keenan Davis, is widely familiar and supportive of the Boys & Girls Club model. “I was drawn to this partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro because of the impact that my hometown Hot Springs Boys & Girls Club had on my life,” Davis stated. “I realize the impact that access and exposure has on a young person’s life. We are excited to play a small role in the Portland community by expanding the confidence in our city’s youth.”

The Hammer & Nails experience is unlike any other in the health and wellness space. The vibe is private, masculine, and relaxing. The atmosphere is low-lit, with soft ambient lighting throughout the shop. Every guest has a personal TV, remote and noise-cancelling headphones, and a complimentary beverage of choice during their visit. Members enjoy priority scheduling for appointments to minimize waiting and to optimize the experience.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Hammer & Nails and so appreciative of this unique opportunity to offer our teens grooming services that can help open doors to networking, professional development, and job opportunities,” says Melissa Froman, Senior Director of Donor Development at BGCP.

Hammer & Nails is located on the corner of E. Burnside and MLK, Jr. The franchise announced its Grand Opening for October 15. The partnership with the Portland Boys & Girls Club will begin immediately.

Keystone Conference Teens in Group

Teens Ignite Change at the 2018 National Keystone Conference

11 teens from multiple Boys & Girls Clubs locations had a chance to grow their leadership skills at the National Keystone Conference in Atlanta, GA this June thanks to generous support through a generous grant by Harry’s Fresh Foods. Along with over 2,000 teens from around the globe, our Portland teen leaders focused on the theme of “What’s the Move? Ignite Change” to discuss social issues in our communities and brainstorm possible solutions to problems such as racism, stereotypes, discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, and more.

Elisua B., one of our exceptional teens from the Rockwood Club, said of their experience, “the Keystone Conference in Atlanta, Georgia was amazing and an opportunity many of us never imagine ever going to. I was able to see beautiful sights, meet great people and experience the National Keystone Conference.”

The 51st Annual National Keystone Conference challenged, inspired, and uplifted our teens, who had opportunities to explore Georgia State University, volunteer at the VA Hospital in Atlanta, hear from a variety of amazing keynote speakers such as rapper, comedian, and television star Nick Cannon, musician and actress Keri Hilson, and Olympian John Carlos, one of the two medalists who made worldwide headlines in 1968 for his political statement during the medalist ceremony and a founding member of the Olympic Project for Human Rights.

About Keystone Club

Keystone Club provides a unique leadership development experience for teenagers. Youth between the ages of 14 – 18 participate in activities, both inside and beyond the Club, that focus on building skills and excellence in areas of academic success, career preparation and community service. Recent projects have included partnering with a Multicultural Center at Portland Community College to put on their graduation ceremony, hosting #WeOwnFridayNight recruitment events for teens across the Portland Metro, and mentoring young leaders in our Clubs.

What is the National Keystone Conference?
