2019 in Review from the Volunteer & Recruitment Coordinator
It’s been a revitalizing, special year at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro, for our volunteer programs and for staff members that are new to the organization or transitioning into new roles.
When given this job, I wasn’t quite sure where to start. But with the support of the ALL our staff, from those who work in the Clubs each afternoon to those who make our business office run, we have been able to take amazing strides forward.
Our mission is to empower youth, to help them discover their full potential as caring, engaged, responsible community members. That would be impossible without each and every one of the volunteers and staff that walked through our doors in 2019.
This year, we’ve hired for numerous positions to provide services to young people and their families. We’ve hosted 23 volunteer groups from corporations, schools, or civic groups. We had 80 volunteers fill 140 volunteer shifts at the annual WinCo Golf Tournament. Through the course of the year, we onboarded over 60 individual volunteers to serve in weekly mentorship positions in our Clubs. And just this fall, our individual volunteers have contributed 840 hours to the Clubs! That’s equivalent to over $21,300 of value. A really incredible year!
This has been a year of changes, but each change has shown the dedication our volunteers and staff have for our youth, our work, our staff, and our organization. It is impossible to impart the gratitude and awe that I have for each individual that comes through our doors. I am grateful to our volunteers for choosing to take time from your busy lives to bring your presence, grace, and positive attitudes into the lives of our youth. And I am so grateful for the incredible staff who choose to make empowering our community’s youth their daily work.
I wish all the best to you and yours. May your days be merry this holiday season. I hope to see you all next year, as we continue to move forward, recruit, and strengthen our organization in 2020 and beyond.
